What To Do In South Lake Tahoe This Summer

As summer approaches, so do some of your favorite summer vacation weekends like Memorial Day Weekend, Fourth of July Weekend, and Juneteenth. Many Californians are planning fun getaways with friends or family for these occasions, or other events like birthdays or anniversaries that warrant a sun-kissed escape! Nestled amidst the towering pines and snowy caps of the Sierra Nevada mountains, Lake Tahoe has loads of outdoor activities and scenic adventures to explore. Whether you're a thrill-seeker, a nature enthusiast, or simply seeking some relaxation by the lake, South Lake Tahoe has something for everyone this summer.

Explore popular hiking trails

Begin your adventure by lacing up your hiking boots and embarking on a journey along the best hiking trails South Lake Tahoe has to offer. From the rugged terrain of the Mount Tallac Trail to the tranquil beauty of Eagle Lake Trail, there's no shortage of breathtaking vistas to discover. As you traverse the forests and peaks, keep your eyes peeled for glimpses of wildlife and colorful wildflowers that dot the landscape. Remember to abide by safe hiking practices, and please protect Tahoe’s pristine nature by leaving no trace!

take a scenic drive

If you’re looking for a more leisurely outdoor experience, South Lake Tahoe's winding scenic drives will take you on a journey through some of the region's most picturesque landscapes. Take a drive along the shores of Lake Tahoe, stopping at lookout points to soak in panoramic views, and snap some unforgettable photos. From your Adventure Stays hotel near stateline, hop on Highway 50 heading North to travel counterclockwise around the Lark and get almost immediately rewarded with lake views. You can also head South on Highway 50 and connect to Highway 89 to travel clockwise and see more of the town of South Lake Tahoe as well as scenic lake views. Don't forget to pack a picnic and make a day of it, reveling in the beauty of nature at your own pace.

Hit the beach

No summer getaway to South Lake Tahoe would be complete without a day spent by the water. Head to one of the area's best known beaches, such as Zephyr Cove Beach or Pope Beach, where you can sunbathe, swim in the refreshing water, or try your hand at exciting water sports like kayaking or paddleboarding. If you brought your furry-friend along, check out the dog waterpark at the east end of Regan Beach (and check out pet-friendly hotels here). find a thrill on the water

For those craving a more exhilarating lake experience, consider renting a jet ski or booking a sailing tour on Lake Tahoe. Feel the wind in your hair as you zip across the crystal-clear waters, taking in panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and the sparkling expanse of the lake below. It's an adventure you won't soon forget. See our post about summer equipment rentals for more information!

delicious dining (with a view!)

After a day of outdoor exploration, treat your taste buds to the culinary delights of South Lake Tahoe's vibrant dining scene. From cozy cafes to upscale eateries, there's no shortage of options to satisfy your appetite. Indulge in fresh, locally sourced cuisine at one of the many waterfront restaurants, where you can savor delectable dishes paired with stunning lake views. Some of our favorite eateries with a view are Riva Grill and Boathouse on the Pier. Other delicious spots for an upscale meal and within walking distance of any Adventure Stays hotel include Maggie’s, and Toulouse. These don't have a direct view of the water, but, we promise, they're still worth a try!

relax at the spa

As the sun sets over the mountains, take some time to unwind and rejuvenate your body and mind. Treat yourself to a yoga retreat nestled amidst the serene beauty of the Sierra Nevada, where you can find inner peace and tranquility amidst nature's embrace. Or, indulge in a relaxing spa day at one of South Lake Tahoe's many day spas, where you can pamper yourself with massages, facials, and other rejuvenating treatments.

hit the CAsinos

South Lake Tahoe is known for its Stateline district, which boasts multiple world class casinos including Harrah's Lake Tahoe, Harvey's Lake Tahoe, Bally's Lake Tahoe, and Golden Nugget Lake Tahoe as well as countless restaurants and bars.
